Palio de LA MARCILIANA
Third weekend of June
It is one of the main popular city festivals and every year thousands of visitors are attracted to the city that relive the medieval historical past of Chioggia.
The third weekend of June, the city becomes the scene of a medieval historical review: the Palio della Marciliana that retraces the historical period before the War of Chioggia.
Taverns, shops, banquets, the Tower of Montalbano and the camps of the armigers are set up.
Five town districts (St. Michael, St. Martin, St. Andrew, St. James and Montalbano) take part in a series of events that bring back the city in the Middle Ages.
One of the most representative moments concerns the dispute of the “Torneo della balestra” – Crossbow Tournament.
In the evening, the Palio ends with a festive procession preceded by performances in the theme, such as the fire at the tower, the triumphal entry of the Doge in the liberated city and the scenes of daily life set up in the streets, on the foundations, on the banks and in the fields of the different districts.
